Rend Collective's call to Joy

How I wish I'd been organised enough to arrange a Worship Team trip to see Rend Collective last Saturday night. I was a bit dubious about whether it would be a concert or a worship service, but I was so pleased to find it really was worship rather than performance.

The band were so tight, and at the same time so joyful and fun to watch. There were confetti cannons, singing along, ceilidh dancing and general pandemonium. Apparently some folks fainted at the front and had to be extracted by bouncers.

In the middle of it all, though, was a really moving call to joyfulness. One of the band reminded us that seriousness is not one of the fruits of the Spirit, but that JOY is! And that we have so much to celebrate. Sometimes it goes against our dour Scottish/Irish/English/whateverness, and the world does constantly remind us how rubbish everything is. It is so counter-cultural to take a stand against that and celebrate goodness...

Have a listen to the album if you get the chance. And if you are on the YouVersion Bible app, they have made a devotional to go along with it which I'm getting a lot out of.
